NHS Fees & Payments

If you do not hold an exemption, you should pay one of the following charges for each course of treatment you receive.

Band 1 £19.70 - This covers an examination, diagnosis (e.g. X-rays), advice on preventative care, a scale and polish (if clinically necessary), application of flouride varnish and fissure sealants.

Assessment and advice (pain appointments) are also included in band 1 even if the treatment needs more than one appointment to be completed

Band 2 £53.90 - This covers all treatments listed in band 1 above, plus any further treatments required such as fillings, root canal work, extractions and additions to dentures.

Band 3 £233.70 - This covers all treatments listed in band 1 & 2 plus crowns, dentures and bridges.

You will not have to pay NHS dental treatment, when treatment starts if you are:

  • Aged under 18
  • Under 19 and in full time education
  • Pregnant or a mother who has had a baby in the last 12 months
  • Referred to hospital to have your treatment carried out (however you may have to pay for any lab work e.g. dentures, bridges)

You also do not have to pay if you receive or are named on one of the following:

  • Income support
  • Income based job seekers
  • Pension credit guarantee
  • NHS tax credit exemption certificate
  • HC2 certificate
